City of Birmingham Will Not Provide Curbside Recycling Pickup on Wednesday, May 17
Due to the recent fire and recovery efforts at the Birmingham Recycling and Recovery facility, the City of Birmingham will not provide curbside recycling pickup for residents on Wednesday, May 17.
The commercial recycling facility is not currently accepting mixed residential recycling from municipalities.
The facility will reopen Monday, May 15 to accept clean, source-separated loads of cardboard and/or paper from commercial haulers and businesses. Residents may also drop off mixed recyclable materials in the facility’s community bins.
Birmingham Recycling and Recovery accepts paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, jugs, and jars with a #1 or #2 recycling symbol, aluminum cans, and steel/tin cans. Items should be empty, clean, and dry. Individuals may place items loose in the drop-off bins. No plastic bags and no plastics other than #1 & #2 containers are accepted.
The city remains in contact with Birmingham Recycling and Recovery and will provide updates concerning curbside recycling pickup as new information becomes available about operational capabilities at the commercial facility.
