Seniors can now apply and claim their vouchers from Alabama Farmers Market Authority to help low-income seniors.

Vouchers for Farmers in Alabama

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit is about to expire this month and there is no clear indication if there will be a bill that will extend the program. However, there are other programs that Americans can utilize to purchase nutritious food.

Millions of Americans will be affected once the SNAP benefits expire and seniors will be the most affected. To give a supplement to this impending problem, Alabama Farmers Market Authority is now encouraging seniors or those age 60 and above to apply for the benefit.

Each senior who will qualify for this program will receive a benefit card worth $30 that they can use at Farmer Market Authority’s approved markets and roadside stands.

Other Important Information Seniors Should Know About the Benefit

Seniors can use the voucher to buy nutritious food such as fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs from farmers that grow them and sell them directly to customers at local farmers’ markets and roadside stands, according to the website Farmland Information Center.

Seniors can redeem the voucher at any state-certified Farmers Market, Farm-stand, and U-pick operation. They can also visit the list by county through this website http:/agi.alabama.gov/docs/fma/RedemptionSites.

Meanwhile, here are the eligibility requirement based on income:

  • $2,096 for a household of one
  • $2,823 for a household of two
  • $3,552 for a household of three
  • $4,279 for a household of four
  • $5,006 for a household of five
  • $5,735 for a household of six

The recipient’s gross monthly household income must not exceed the following limits mentioned above. Seniors must re-apply for this program because the voucher expires every year.
